| Foreigners Certificate Now Available
Around 100 EU citizens collected the new compulsory document last Monday on the first day it became available. The certificate does not have to be carried around unless it is required for a particular transaction, but nor does it show a photo and cannot be used for identification. Currently it is only available from the Police offices at Campo de Mirra in Alicante, but it is expected to be able to be collected from other police stations around the province once the necessary resources have been distributed. The green form apparently cannot be falsified and does not have to be renewed every 5 years like the Residencia. Some of those present that day complained it would not be a card, due to the inconvenience of now still having to carry a passport, although existing Residencias do remain valid until their expiry.
Discover Spanish gold
There is far more to this country than paella and flamenco, so broaden your Hispanic horizons, urges Annie Bennett. If your last holiday in Spain involved little more than lying on a beach for a fortnight, it is time to take another look. Of course, you can still chill out to your heart's content, but there are so many new experiences on offer it seems a shame not to try them. .
Tour operators merge to benefit holidaymakers
The merger of the firms, which run flights to a range of sunshine hotspots such as Alicante, Malaga, Dalaman and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, will create Europe's second largest tour operator. It is expected that the deal will save the two firms around £75 million each year, savings which will be passed on to holidaymakers.Last year, MyTravel flew six million people around the world despite having been close to the brink of collapse just four years ago. However, now it is booming in the holiday market and is set to continue its growth by joining forces with Thomas Cook. MyTravel chairman Michael Beckett said: "Thomas Cook is a household name and the joining of the two groups will create an even stronger force in this highly competitive market."MyTravel is to be rebranded as Thomas Cook when the deal receives full backing from both firms and could see passengers flying with the airline travelling under the Thomas Cook banner by the summer.
