| Shepherd hit by train when trying to save his sheep
A 60 year old shepherd died at 6,40 pm last night when he was hit by a train in Villena as he was trying to save his flock. Four sheep also died in the incident which resulted in the line being closed for an hour afterwards. It happened at la Vereda de las Fuentes, just one kilometre outside the local station. Police think the man was trying to get his sheep of the tracks when he was hit by the Altaria train travelling from Alicante to Madrid. A local witness said the same shepherd lost 30 of his sheep when hit by a train in the area a year and a half ago. © typicallyspanish.com div#usernotes { background-color: transparent; } div#usernotes div.head, div#usernotes div.foot { background-color: transparent; padding: 4px; } div#usernotes div.foot { text-align: right; } div#usernotes div.foot a, div#usernotes div.head a { background-color: transparent; } div#usernotes span.action { float: right; } div#usernotes div.note { margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 2em; border-bottom:1px dashed; padding: 4px; } div#usernotes div.text { padding: 2px; margin-top: 4px; } .

Many foreign residents of Spain head to Turismur to find out more about Spanish tourist destinations. With a strong showing by the host region of Murcia there are plenty of hidden secrets to explore. Other regions also put a big effort into promoting their wares and this year there will be displays from Valencia, Navarra, Castilla La Mancha, Galicia, Andaluca, Teruel, Costa Blanca and Costa del Azahar. There will also be participation by Polish and Lithuanian tourism organisations. It's not just destinations that will be filling the halls at Turismur, however, as there is a very strong concentration on leisure activities. These include water sports, swimming pools, motor cycles, quad bikes, and a host of other activities. In addition, plenty of attractive mobile homes will be on view in a range of styles and prices.

Iberia carried 37.2 % more passengers on its Madrid-Moscow route in 2006, in comparison with the previous year. The load factor on the route, which was launched just two years ago, reached 74.4% in 2006. Since the maiden flight on March 13th, 2005, Iberia has carried nearly 130,000 passengers on this route. Iberia plans to increase significantly the number of weekly flights between Madrid and Moscow, and also to begin flights from St. Petersburg, starting in June. The additional frequencies will provide passengers from Russia with better connections in Madrid to other 35 Spanish cites; Lisbon and Oporto in Portugal, 17 Latin American destinations, particularly the main Central American capitals and the Caribbean region, such as Cuba and the Dominican Republic, as well as to Buenos Aires and Mexico, where Iberia flies twice a day.
Court orders investigation into Alicante suicide
An Alicante court has ordered an investigation into the death of a French woman who, according to reports, took her own life last Friday. It happened at her home on Albufereta Beach in the presence of volunteers from the association Derecho a Morir Dignamente - The Right to Die with Dignity. Named as Madeleine Z.B., she had suffered a degenerative disease since 2001. The womans son, Domingo Biver, told EFE Television that he has filed a complaint against the association. He said he only found out they were present at her death by accident, and that his mother had quickly forgotten any previous wish to end it all after a couple of days. © typicallyspanish.com div#usernotes { background-color: transparent; } div#usernotes div.head, div#usernotes div.foot { background-color: transparent; padding: 4px; } div#usernotes div.foot { text-align: right; } div#usernotes div.foot a, div#usernotes div.head a { background-color: transparent; } div#usernotes span.action { float: right; } div#usernotes div.note { margin-left: 2em; margin-right: 2em; border-bottom:1px dashed; padding: 4px; } div#usernotes div.text { padding: 2px; margin-top: 4px; } .
