VIII EDITION OF -THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE PORK- IN TORRELAMATA ...

More than 1.000 people celebrated the -International Day of the Pork- at the Salt Pier Square in La Mata, organized by the Association -Friends of the Pork-.

This VIII edition of the International Day of the Pork gathered more than 1.000 people last Saturday morning at the Salt Pier Square in La Mata. People from all sort of nationalities enjoyed the tasting of products made in La Mata such as bread, wine, beer, celery, beans in an atmosphere of joy. The celebration took place at the square, a special open air dining room where lots of people from everywhere, from any country could taste the excellent pork meat.

The meaning of this International Day of the Pork is to remember the lost tradition of killing the pork in order to fill the stock of food.

On this 8th edition, the pigs were from Murcia, bred in Elche, fatten up in a private house in La Hoya, killed in Alicante, refrigerated in La Daya, to end in the hands of the butcher Francisco Rocamora Ferri.


FCC's airport handling unit awarded new licences in Spain

Flightcare, a subsidiary of FCC Corp., one of Spain's largest construction groups, is successfully starting up at the seven Spanish airports for which it was awarded 7-year operating licences. Flightcare will begin providing services at Barcelona airport, where it will have over 30% of the market, handling 40,000 flights per year.

The company has a 35% market share at Alicante airport, where it has been operating since 21 February, when it also began providing cargo handling services. Valencia airport was the first base to be inaugurated (14 December 2006) and, after the good track record of the last few months, Flightcare now has over 55% of the market. On 15 February, Flightcare began operating at Jerez airport, where it handles 55% of flights. The other three bases will be inaugurated in the next few days: Almeria on 27 February, Malaga on 2 March, and Fuerteventura on 8 March.


Another Successful Half Marathon In Torrevieja

The Torrevieja Marathon was sponsored by Torrevieja Council's department for Sport, in collaboration with 'Grupo Brotons Eventos' who provided Technical support, and co-ordinated the event. A number of local businesses and organisations, including Carrefour, McDonalds and Torrevieja Television also gave their support, providing refreshments and numerous prizes for runners. The run commenced at 10.00am, leaving from the Vista Alegre. From there, runners made their way out of Torrevieja, heading south in the orientation of 'Curva de Palangre'. They reached a turning point, before heading back into Torrevieja and re-entering the town along the Calle Ramon Gallud. Runners then followed a route around the town centre, taking in Avenida de La Sal, Calle Mar Baltico, Calle Roentgen, Calle Gabriella Mistral, Calle Doctor Fleming, and finally back towards the finish line on the Paseo Vista Alegre.


Three tons of cannabis seized on El Ejido beach

The news has been released that the Civil Guard have seized almost three tons of cannabis from a beach in El Ejido in an operation which took place early on Monday morning. A routine patrol found the drugs on a lorry which they saw parked on Balerma Beach with its lights switched off. The driver fled when he saw the officers approaching and remains at large. The vehicle turned out to be stolen from Elche in Alicante province in February last year. © typicallyspanish.com
